The Taters play their own brand of "Roots-Pop", an eclectic mix of roots-rock, power-pop, and Americana. The Taters are now in their 30th year. They have released 9 CDs of original music, much of it written by Craig Evans.
Brad Tucker and Craig Evans formed/started The Taters in 1997, originally under the title The Burnt Taters. Around 2000 or so, the name was changed to just The Taters. That was after many years of singing and playing together, which had began in 1981.
Billboard Magazine calls it "American roots-rock, with thoroughly modern, totally hip, sensibilities".
The Washington Post says, The Taters "Successfully combine the best elements of Buddy Holly with the vocal harmonies of the Everly Brothers." No matter what the style, the music always centers around vocal melodies and harmonies, and it's hard to walk away from a show without humming the songs.
No Depression magazine describes it like this: "Think 'Beatles For-Sale' if Marty Robbins were a primary influence instead of Carl Perkins."
The Taters have also functioned as studio band musicians for a various local artists. Their work for TortoiseClimbing Audio™ is exemplified on the following songs, (planned for release in Fall/Winter 2026 on our 2nd EP):
