The majority of the vocals were recorded during Phase I by David Goettee, Heidi Gerber-Salins and Dorothy Gould Gerber, which established the vocal foundation for the Hymns and Songs of My Mother. However, there was a known need to add more harmonic fullness/color to some of the hymns.
Thus during Phase II, a few of the foundational vocals were expanded by adding additional vocal harmonies, broadening the harmonic fullness/color of selected verses for some hymns. Decisions regarding what to add to which hymns were largely guided by:
In addition during Phase II, Mr. Goettee recorded lead for the new arrangement of "Welcome Home," the women's refrains were recorded, and it was decided to include the composer/author's earlier vocal recording on a few phrases. The arrangement was also developed during Phase II.
