All Descants, Except for Christ the Lord Is Risen Today, Are by Jeff Whitmill
Because of the success with the descant added in Phase I to Christ the Lord Is Risen Today sung by Ms. Dorothy Gould Gerber and her daughter Heidi Gerber-Salins, I decided to add several descants in Phase II as an additional layer of harmony. Those descant arrangements used were composed by Mr. Jeff Whitmill. He has been involved in music as:
Composer;
Conductor;
Arranger;
Teacher;
Hornist; and
Singer.
He conducted – and wrote music for – school music groups, community, church and corporate choirs, and professional and community musical theatres. His compositions include:
2 symphonies;
6 masses;
3 ballets; and
A men’s choral work.
Among other things, Mr. Whitmill has been:
Director of Music, 1st United Methodist Church, New Castle, IN from 1992 – 1997.
Director of Music, Portland Avenue United Methodist Church, Bloomington, Minnesota, 1999 – 2001.
Musical Director, St. Barnabas Lutheran Church in Plymouth, MN August 2004 to 2006.
Director, St. Barnabas Center for the Arts, St. Barnabas Lutheran Church in Plymouth, MN, from 2006 to the present. At St. Barnabas Lutheran Church Mr. Whitmill also conducts the church’s Senior Choir, the St. Barnabas Brass, and occasional “pick ’em up” ensembles he puts together for worship services. He arranges or composes music for all these groups.
Another activity Mr. Whitmill engages in is creation of Descants for hymns, which he makes freely available for all to use via his website found at (not secure), http://whitmill.net/descants/. That site states -
